In Response was an exhibition of works from the print archive of the Newport Museum and Galleries and the response to the collection by members of the V-6 Printmaking group. The exhibition featured some of the most important prints produced in the early, middle and late 20th century. Artists from V-6 group chose work from the archive and produced new work in response. The following pages highlight selected prints from the archive, an essay by Chris Orr and examples of the V-6 Response prints. In addition see In Response 2 and In Response 3

The essence of the concept for this exhibition has been one of collaboration. Artists from the V-6 Contemporary Printmakers group have both helped select the exhibits, and in addition, produced new work in response to our collections. The Gallery is indebted to the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff for their support, and in particular to the participating artists for compiling and researching the In Response Catalogue and for their invaluable contribution to the project as a whole.
