Tom Piper

Tom Piper was born in the USA. He completed a Master of Fine Art degree at Eastern Michigan University and consequently taught at Daemon College in Buffalo New York. He moved to the United Kingdom in the early 1970s. He has taught at the Ruskin School of Drawing, University of Oxford and has worked professionally in Fine Art Pint workshops such as Editions Alecto, London, The Jerusalem Print Workshop, The Burston Graphic Centre, Jerusalem Israel and Peregrine Press, Dallas Texas. He has recently retired from his position as head of the Printmaking Department at The Cardiff School of Art and Design, University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. He is the former Director of the Centre for Research in Fine Art, School of Art and Design and a founder member of V-6, Virtually-6.com, the printmaking research group, UWIC. He has been awarded a major support grant from the Arts Council of Wales. Tom Piper has exhibited his work widely in the UK and abroad, including The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and The Discerning Eye Exhibition Mall Galleries London 2005 and 2006. His work was included in the Global Eyes Exhibition as part of a V-6 invited entry at Siggraph 2007 in San Diego. As part of the Siggraph travelling exhibition his work was included in the show of that work in the Los Angeles County Museum in 2008. Most recently Tom Pipers work was shown at the Royal West of England Open-Print Exhibition in 2009 where he won the digital-print award. His work was shown also at the Mall Galleries London in the prestigious exhibition, 2010 Open-Print. In August this year Piper was awarded the Printmaking prize at the Welsh Artist of the Year Exhibition at St. Davids Hall, Cardiff.
